There's a great article on CNN money by Anne Fisher, who writes the column "Ask Annie" for Fortune magazine, that addresses this very subject. According to Anne, now is the perfect time to bring up this subject with your boss. Departments are firming up their budgets, so it's time to start negotiating. A word of encouragement: "According to a raft of recent surveys, the average pay increase companies are planning for 2012 hovers between 2.8% and 3%, up a little from around 2.6% in 2010 and 2011."
